May Day SurprisE | May 2024

In keeping with the May Day tradition, ASOP surprised its neighbors, Blackford Brokerage, with May Day boxes containing cupcakes.

Several of Art teacher Joy's students decorated the boxes, and then "paraded" over to Blackford with Joy, school counselor Hollyn, and therapy dog Abby to wish their staff a Happy May Day!

STUDENTS AND TEACHER DONATE ARTWORK FOR A CAUSE | October 2023

Art teacher Joy and 10 of her students created and donated 29 art pieces to InterUrban ArtHouse's annual Arts on Fire fundraiser. Over 700 art pieces, donated by local artists but kept anonymous, were available for purchase, with the proceeds helping to fund InterUrban's art programming. Every art piece donated by ASOP was sold, contributing to the $20,000 raised at this event.

Collection drives for the Veterans Community Project | 2022-2023

ASOP’s 2022-2023 Student Council voted to support the Veterans Community Project (VCP) in Kansas City through two collection drives: one for socks and another for hygiene items. The VCP provides walk-in support services and tiny homes in its Village to our nation’s veterans. VCP staff member Kristin Griffins spoke at ASOP about her organization’s mission after accepting the socks donations. Later in the year, some Student Council and staff members visited the VCP to deliver the collected hygiene items and were treated to a tour by Kristin of the community center, a tiny home, and VCP’s warehouse.
