SAFETY & SECURITY

Accelerated Schools is committed to making school safety and security a priority. We strive to create a safe learning environment for our students, and to ensure students and staff know what to do and where to go in an emergency situation.

Preparing for emergency Situations

Every classroom and common space in the school has instructions for the different types of emergency situations that may arise.

Also posted prominently in these places are fire evacuation maps and tornado shelter maps.

ASOP students and staff participate in fire, tornado and crisis drills throughout the school year.

Accelerated Schools has implemented other safety and security measures (e.g., ones related to intruders and medical emergencies) that include:

  • Monitored security cameras

  • Locked building doors during school hours

  • Visitor procedures

  • First aid kits on site

  • Two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) on site

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED training/certification offered through professional development.

Making School a Safe Haven

All school employees are encouraged to create an atmosphere of kindness, respect and fairness at school, and to be a safe harbor for all students.

In addition, our school community is encouraged to be vigilant and report any statement, activity or behavior that is in any way suggestive of future violent action.
