STUDENT LIFE & ENRICHMENT

Students at Accelerated Schools enjoy a variety of activities and events that enrich their time in school. Many of these take place in one of the three pods that are the primary gathering spots at ASOP, or on school grounds. Others, such as field trips, occur away from school.

Morning Break & Lunchtime

During morning break and lunchtime, high schoolers hang out in one of the two North Building pods, while middle schoolers meet in the South Building pod. For those nice weather days, there are three picnic tables behind the school. Finally, students who need something extra to get through the day can stop by the ASOP Snack Shop during lunchtime.

Student Council

ASOP formed its first Student Council (STUCO) in 2022. This program provides an avenue for students to develop leadership skills and learn the value of teamwork. The group works with a teacher advisor to suggest school activities and events that bring students together in a positive way and enhance school spirit. STUCO also helps ASOP choose a community service focus.

STUCO achieved many things their first year. Most notably they spearheaded Friday, 7th-period activity clubs, which have included choir-oke, arts and crafts, chess, tabletop games, and gardening; held a design contest for a new student hoodie; rallied ASOP behind the Kansas City Chiefs; planned a school spirit week; and organized two collection drives for the Veterans Community Project (VCP).

Enrichment

ASOP administration and faculty work to augment both the educational and social experiences students have at school. Field trips and speakers that complement school curriculum, fun outings that allow time for students to socialize, 7th-period activity clubs, special classroom activities, seasonal celebrations, end-of-semester gatherings, a raised garden and bee yard, and community service are some examples.
